The Hall’s Safe & Lock Company was an American manufacturer of locks, safes, and bank vaults throughout the second half of the 19th century.
Incorporated by Joseph L. Hall in 1867, the Hall’s Safe & Lock Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio quickly grew to become the largest safe and vault manufacturer in the world. By 1892 it was responsible for “one-half the entire output of fire proof and burglar proof safes and vaults in the United States” and had offices throughout the United States and much of the rest of the world.
In 1892, through the formation and merging of 5 firms Hall’s Safe & Lock Company became Herring-Hall-Marvin Company.

York Safe & Lock Co.
York Safe & Lock Company was founded in 1882 when the company engaged in the manufacturing of small safes for offices. Business increased and a few years after the origin of the works, the company began to make bank and safe deposit vaults. The factory was entirely destroyed by fire in 1894, and was soon after rebuilt on a much larger scale, and since that time a large number of safes have found ready sale, not only in America, but in foreign countries. The York Safe and Lock Company has supplied bank vaults for some of the largest financial institutions in the United States.
